Programme management is still developing as a discipline, but like its older sister, project management, it is being shown to add great value to organisations that choose to use it.
Where there is potential for conflict between a number of projects running in an organisation, programme management can help to prioritise activities and so reduce the impact of the conflict. More importantly, programme management ensures the products the projects deliver get into the normal operations of the organisation (business as usual), thereby ensuring that the full business benefit of undertaking the change activities is realised.
